Job Description

The Department of Surgery at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Division of Surgical Oncology. The individual will participate in research projects focusing on immunotherapy and cancer stem cells in gastric cancer. The candidate will work with cancer cell lines, tumor-derived organoids, mouse models (injection models and genetically engineered models), and patient blood and tissue samples.

Responsibilities:

* Cell culture for mouse and human primary cells and established cell lines

* Mouse husbandry, treatment, and surgery to generate and analyze gastric cancer mouse models

* Analysis of tumor growth by bioluminescence

* Flow cytometry analysis of the immune microenvironment of gastric tumors

* Generation and culture of gastric cancer patient-derived organoids

* Perform literature searches, manage data, analyze experimental results, generate figures, and write manuscripts

* Effectively present your research at meetings and conferences

* Teach and direct medical students, surgical residents, and other members of the lab

Additional responsibilities include academic research, (participation in clinical and/or basic research) in accordance with our compliance and excellence in quality care programs, to include active participation in the education of research fellows, residents and medical students. Responsibilities include participation in the academic and research missions of the University and the Department of Surgery.

  • * MD or PhD
  • * Experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunostaining, and cell culture.
  • * Experience working with human biological samples and mouse models.
  • * Experience in DNA and RNA isolation.
  • * Experience with grant preparation, manuscript writing and editing preferred.
  • * 2-3 publication related to cellular and molecular biology with pathology preferred.
  • * Ability to effectively collaborate with other research staff in laboratory preferred.
