OVERVIEW: Provide technically sound solutions primarily for existing buildings, which would include repair, restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive re-use projects. Opportunities may develop for designing small scale commercial, retail, and/or hospitality projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct on-site investigations and property conditions assessments in order to determine appropriate scope of work for damaged and/or poorly performing buildings.
  • Evaluating existing buildings as a part of due diligence and in preparation for discussions on changes in the use of the structure (adaptive reuse).
  • Prepare written technical reports describing your observations, analysis, and recommendations for the buildings being evaluated.
  • Research the history of buildings and any associated code updates that should apply depending on the basis of the design.
  • Complete design assignments related to changes in use, upgrades, maintenance, and restoration of existing buildings, as well as components of design related to new construction.
  • Complete constructability and third-party peer reviews of plans and specifications prepared by others.
  • Manage projects and teams for a variety of building projects, assuring QA/QC in the final product. Being the lead for multidisciplinary teams
  • Coordinate the work of various disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure consistency in the final deliverables.
  • Manage multiple projects with deadlines, preparing technical condition reports, repair design, bid documents, addenda, change orders and other construction documentation.
  • Ability to initiate, develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Architecture, or higher, is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of building systems, construction document preparation, construction administrative services, and project management of building construction.
  • Registered Architect as well as the ability to become registered throughout the U.S.
  • Registered Roofing Consultant and/or Registered Wall Consultant designations are desired, but not required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required. Revit and rendering production is preferred.
  • Good report writing skills with the ability to develop and commit to budgets, scopes, and deadlines.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with clients at all levels (e.g. internal and external), and work independently with good judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to travel in and out of state on assignments (approximately 20% travel).

REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of commercial, retail, hospitality, and residential building systems.
  • Proficient knowledge of Accessibility (ADA), Life Safety and Fire Separation Plans, Applicable Building Codes, Local Ordinances, and industry standards.
  • Building Science and the application of that knowledge to predicting and solving issues related to the building envelope.
  • Design and construction of building envelop systems including glazing systems, cladding assemblies, insulation, air barriers, roofing systems and waterproofing systems.
  • Facade evaluations and remediation design.
  • Field assessment and evaluation of the built environment, to include working from ladders, lifts, scaffolds, swing stages, and rooftops.
  • Creating required details and specifications using knowledge of building codes and industry standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, and TRAVEL:

Work will be performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Overtime - Will depend if the position is Exempt or Non-Exempt? This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.

Travel Requirements -

  • Overnight travel is anticipated to be roughly 25%. Travel may include anywhere in the United States.
  • Field inspections are anticipated to be roughly 2 days per week, and travel may be required within the United States.
